CASA CRUZ DE LA LUNA

SITE-IN-PROGRESS

We are in the process of building a new bilingual website which will include archives of our work in Puerto Rico since 1997, the TEATROTECA ESTELA (a virtual collection of theatrical scripts, essays and manifestos), news about the current activity of our theatre laboratory in San German and New York, and about the upcoming conversion of our house into a permanent live museum of interactive fictions designed by resident artist and director Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya.

Soltando la lengua / Lo(o)sing your Tongue”

Loisaida Inc.Center welcomes the Puerto Rican experimental theatre company Casa Cruz de la Luna in a new residency:“Soltando la lengua / Lo(o)sing your Tongue.”

For the past decade, Casa Cruz de la Luna Theatre has been studying how “poor” quotidian technologies related to language (such as text processing, dictation, messaging and translation programs) can be integrated into new ways of creating theatre. Through different workshops, talks and presentations, group members Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya, Alejandra Maldonado and Christopher Cancel Pomales will explore with participants how passages (pases) between written and  spoken words, virtual and embodied presences, familiar and fluctuating codes can generate the stage as a space of multiple lines of communication.

The residency starts with a FREE and OPEN public workshop-laboratory, “Escritura Acto:  The Poetics of Live Writing”

"ESCRITURA ACTO:  THE POETICS OF LIVE WRITING WORKSHOP"

Focusing on “escritura acto”-or the act of live computerized writing projected onstage- the lab will develop a consciousness of the performer as another medium (medio, mediumnidad) interacting physically and energetically with other mediums (actors, spectators, objects, apparatuses, locations, programs) in performance. Exercises will explore the different mechanisms for generating tension through escritura acto, such as: disjunction (writing one content while speaking another); precognition (playing with expectations on how words and sentences are going to be completed): body kinetic responses to the writing as it is being produced; and the movement of texts through translation / dictation / reading /copying chains. The process will culminate in a presentation open to the public on the last day of class.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-9:30 PM / February 2-18  (six sessions)

at The Loisaida Inc. Center, 710 East 9th St. (and Ave. C)

Language of instruction:  English, but participants can create work in any language

Facilitated by company members Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya, Alejandra Maldonado and Christopher Cancel.
